Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologises for the slowness of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout but says it is important to focus on the future of the program.
“I’m certainly sorry that we haven’t been able to achieve the marks that we had hoped for at the beginning of this year, of course I am, but what’s more important is that we’re totally focused on ensuring that we’ve been turning this around,” he said. Mr Morrison said there was another record day of vaccinations with 184,000 being administered in a single day and over a million this week in total.
Mr Morrison urged Australians to get vaccinated with the vaccine of their choice but urged those over 60 years old in vulnerable areas to get the AstraZeneca “as soon as you possibly can”. “Whether it’s an AstraZeneca or whether it’s Pfizer or indeed the Moderna vaccines that will be coming soon later this year, these vaccines work.”
