Harry’s immigration status has been under intense scrutiny since he opened up about his youthful experimentation with drugs in his memoir ‘Spare.’
says that any visa applicant who is determined to be a drug abuser or addict is inadmissible, though immigration officials can use their discretion to waive the rule.
“The drug issue is a huge question,” Nile Gardiner, director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at the Heritage Foundation, told the The Telegraph. “Applicants to the US have to say if they have used drugs. If they say yes, they have to fill out a much more detailed form. Sometimes they will be denied entry.”
The foundation said Harry could and should face harsh penalties if he lied on his application and didn’t reveal his drug use. Penalties include deportation or being barred from applying for citizenship. It’s likely that Harry needs to apply for a new visa this year, The Telegraph said. Immigration officials could require him to meet with medical examiners to find out if there’s been any recent drug use.
