Prince William has reportedly overruled a controversial decision by Queen Camilla ahead of Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Sperling this weekend.
‘Total lockdown’: Prince William ‘overrides’ Queen Camilla ’s authority as Princess Anne faces tiara dilemma ahead of Peter Phillips ’ wedding to Harriet Sperling Prince William is said to have"overridden" a controversial order about access to royal jewels made by Queen Camilla ahead of his cousin's wedding this weekend.
Prince William has reportedly overruled a controversial decision by Queen Camilla ahead of Peter Phillips' wedding to Harriet Sperling this weekend. Princess Anne's son will wed the NHS nurse in a"private ceremony" in the Cotswolds on Saturday, in front of senior members of the Royal Family, including the King, Queen, and Prince and Princess of Wales.
It is tradition that a bride will wear a tiara from the Royal Vault when they marry into the Royal Family, and the Princess Royal, 75, has several diadems that she could loan to her new daughter-in-law. However, according to a Palace source, Queen Camilla's office attempted to block Harriet from accessing the royal jewels because she has no aristocratic blood.
Camilla herself did not wear a tiara when she married the then-Prince Charles in 2005, instead opting for a feathered Philip Treacy headpiece. The insider told the Royal Insider Network that Camilla's decision irked Princess Anne, and she turned to her nephew, Prince William, 43, to override it. As reported by the Daily Express, William then authorised a"total administrative lockdown of the Royal Vaults" to allow Peter's bride to wear a tiara, should Princess Anne decide to loan her one.
According to the insider, Anne's Pineflower Aquamarine Tiara is one of the top choices for the mum-of-one. Prince William has allegedly overridden Queen Camilla's controversial decision. The jewel belonged to the Queen Mother and was gifted to Anne on her 1973 wedding day to Peter's father, Mark Phillips.
Another option is the Meander Tiara, which was gifted to Anne by Queen Elizabeth II on her 18th birthday in 1968, and worn by Zara Tindall when she married rugby player Mike Tindall in 2011. The tiara had been passed down to the late monarch by her mother-in-law, Princess Alice of Battenberg, when she married Prince Philip in 1947.
A third possibility could be Anne's favourite Festoon Diamond Tiara, which she loaned to Peter's first wife, Autumn Phillips, for their 2008 nuptials. Anne received the diamond piece from the World Wide Shipping Group of Hong Kong in 1973, and she has worn it on numerous occasions over the years, including in her 1973 engagement photoshoot with Mark. Princess Anne's Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara is thought to be the top choice for Harriet Sperling.
Whether or not Harriet wears a tiara when she marries Peter on Saturday, June 6, she will not receive any royal titles. Peter does not have any royal titles himself, despite being 19th in line to the throne, because Princess Anne declined to give them to him and Zara at birth, allowing them to live more normal lives. They both have children from their previous marriages.
Peter has Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14, and Harriet has one teenage daughter named Georgina.
