The Princess of Wales was challenged during a visit to Northern Ireland who suggested Kate was not in her own country. Kate and William were speaking to members of the public in an impromptu meet and greet with people in north Belfast when the exchange unfolded.
While shaking hands with the princess, the woman said: “Nice to meet you but it would be better if it was when you were in your own country.” The woman, who appeared to be videoing the exchange on a mobile phone, then added: “Ireland belongs to the Irish.” Another woman shook her hand and said: "Welcome to Belfast anyway". Many people have responded angrily after the video was posted on Twitter. One said: "People have nothing to do, they leave the house and stand in line and are rude, my dear, you need to review your choices."William and Kate are in Northern Ireland for the first time as Prince and Princess of Wales. Hundreds of people lined the Marine Highway in Carrickfergus as they continue their visit to the Co Antrim town.
They exchanged handshakes and fist-bumps with local schoolchildren who had waited for hours to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.
