Images of Larry Fife Giberson, 21, of Manahawkin in Stafford Township, at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. A Princeton University graduate from New Jersey was sentenced to two months in prison Wednesday for his riotous actions during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.to felony civil disorder and admitted to encouraging others during some of the more violent surges at the Capitol’s Lower West Terrace tunnel.
The then-20-year-old traveled to Washington, D.C. with his mother for the rally that precipitated the attack because of his studies and “concerns” about the 2020 presidential election results, he told FBI agents. “While it is true that Giberson accepted responsibility for his criminal conduct by pleading guilty ... it is troubling that several of Giberson’s statements to the investigators are inconsistent with the video evidence documenting Giberson’s conduct at the Capitol on January 6,” Rancourt wrote.
“In short, Mr. Giberson studied the issues surrounding the 2020 election and concluded that state actors had interfered with the electoral process in unconstitutional ways,” Burnham wrote, and noted that Giberson thought Congress had the authority to act.
