The head of Sydney private school Shore has described the man suspected of killing Lilie James as “not a monster”.
The NSW Women’s Minister says a principal of a Sydney private school should reflect on his words after he described a sports assistant who murdered his female colleague as “an absolute delight” and “not a monster”.
His remarks, first reported by the ABC, included that “the young man concerned was, in everybody’s estimation, an absolute delight”. “He was not a monster; rather, in the last five hours of his life, he committed a monstrous act which was in complete contradiction to what everyone who knew him observed in the rest of this short life,” he wrote, raising the impact of sexual violence in porn on young men and remarking that the community “will never know” if this was a factor in Thijssen’s behaviour.
“It was never our intention to create any additional distress for those affected by this tragedy,” the spokesperson said.
