We chat with Citadel star priyankachopra & EP Joe Russo about PrimeVideo's global spy series, the intricacies of its complicated female lead, and the secret to Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden's fire chemistry:
Citadel is set to be the next big thing at Prime Video, a spy drama with an A-list cast and a plot that will take viewers around the world. Premiering on April 28, the action-packed series is produced by none other than Joe and Anthony Russo, whose work on Captain America: Winter Soldier and the last two Avengers films have made them the go-to guys for sprawling and stunt-filled epics.
Priyanka Chopra: I think the core of her being is that she is, in her head, always trying to do right by her job, her responsibility, and her family. She has a sense of morality that's her own, and that could be amoral, but she justifies it to herself. I think she operates in gray, and she's okay with that.
Joe Russo: It's intrinsic to the whole concept of the show. Jennifer Salke pitched us the idea originally, and she runs Prime. Her idea was, "Look, I want to make a show that has a US flagship, and that can splinter off into regional shows made with talent from those regions in those local languages.
