The Brisbane Council initiative, which includes a family trip to Tangalooma Resort and a trailer full of tools, follows a review that found February’s flood warnings were inadequate.
In his report, de Jersey said the council’s early-warning system “was inadequate, slow, and reached only 14 per cent of residents”.
“The system, provided by Weatherzone, distributed more than 2.7 million email and SMS alerts to residents about weather conditions and creek levels before and throughout the event,” Schrinner said.
