San Diego State defensive lineman Jonas Tavai and wide receiver Jesse Matthews were among 10 Aztecs hopefuls for 2023 NFL Draft being put through their paces
Tavai weighs 290 pounds, but he stands barely 6 feet tall , a cause for pause for some scouts.
Added Tavai: “As long as I can get into a minicamp, I can definitely show what I can do on the field.” While indoors, the players were measured for height and weight, hand size and wing span. They also were tested on the bench press, along with vertical and broad jumps. SDSU had four players — punter Matt Araiza, tight end Daniel Bellinger, defensive end Cameron Thomas and offensive lineman Zach Thomas — selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cam Thomas and Bellinger were Day 2 selections, with Araiza and Zach Thomas waiting until Day 3.
