Federal and state authorities have urged pro-Palestinian protesters to reconsider plans to hold rallies on the first anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attack, with the SA premier describing a proposed demonstration as 'grossly irresponsible' and 'insensitive' to the Jewish community.
The SA and federal governments have urged pro- Palestinian protesters to rethink plans for rallies on October 7.
According to SA parliament's list of scheduled demonstrations, Lil Aqsa has approval to demonstrate between the hours of 6am and 9pm.in which more than 40,000 people have been killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. "I think whoever gave consent has made an error of judgement, and I would hope that the premier would have discussions with both the Speaker and the Serjeant-at-Arms about withdrawing that invitation on Monday," Mr Pangallo told ABC Radio Adelaide.
Mr Malinauskas said permits for protests were issued under the Public Assemblies Act, and that the state's Police Commissioner was only authorised to cancel a protest only "where there is reason to because it would offend the rule of law". "Those involved are legally obliged to act in a lawful manner and any illegal activities and violence won't be tolerated," he said.
