The first proposals to demolish a care home and replace with a housing development have been revealed.
Hertfordshire County Council says bringing the home up to modern care standards was not “cost effective”.
The council’s property development company, Herts Living Ltd, is now exploring opportunities to redevelop the site.Plans published on a consultation website indicate 20 flats and ten houses are proposed to be built along with an unspecified number of parking spaces and a new open space. The flats would come with private balconies and residents would share gardens while the houses would come with private gardens.
Vehicle access is proposed to be from Parsonage Close but there would be direct pedestrian and cycle access through to High Street. The Watford Day Service and parking area would not be impacted by the plans. With a planning application expected to be submitted to Three Rivers District Council soon, planning consultant Vincent + Gorbing says consultation feedback will help “influence” the final proposals.
