The City of Sydney has warned that land earmarked for a new park at a motorway junction for the WestConnex is polluted and unsuitable as a recreation spot | Mattonews

The council said it was discussing alternative sites with the state's transport agency.

But City of Sydney councillor Linda Scott said WestConnex and the government were trying to hand over contaminated land encased in a dome of road to the council. Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Transport Minister Andrew Constance at the St Peters interchange earlier this month.Contractors are using the area designated for the 2.5-hectare park as a construction site for twin road tunnels for WestConnex between St Peters and Haberfield.

"A land bridge is not the right solution and an alternative is needed. [But] if a land bridge is to be constructed, the city's preference is for a landscaped, aesthetically sensitive land bridge," it said.
