Prosecutors cautioned against charging Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., in a sex trafficking investigation, partly because of credibility questions with two key witnesses, the Washington Post reported.

The Post, citing people familiar with the case, said that it is rare the advice would be turned down, but also added that there is always a chance more evidence comes out that could change how the prosecutors understand the case.He was being investigated for having sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl and allegedly paid for her to travel with him, the New York Times first reported last year.

Gaetz denied the allegations and has claimed that he only had sexual relations with a 17-year-old when he was 17.
