Prosecutors have told how the decision to pursue a retrial against Lucy Letby was 'extremely complex and difficult'. The nurse was sentenced to a whole life order after being convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit in 2015 and 2016.
The 33-year-old is alleged to have attempted to murder a baby girl, known as Child K, in February 2016. A trial was scheduled for June 10 next year, and could last for two to three weeks.READ MORE: The top stories across the M.E.N. He said: "These decisions on whether to seek retrials on the remaining counts of attempted murder were extremely complex and difficult. Before reaching our conclusions we listened carefully to the views of the families affected, police and prosecution counsel.
