The chaotic scenes spilled into Oldham Road as Tactical Aid Unit officers raced to the scene
A protest in Manchester erupted into scenes of violence on Wednesday night , with a man dragged off a bus and assaulted and rocks and bottles pelted at riot police.
It took just minutes for tensions to build, with the group then spilling out onto busy Oldham Road, jumping in front of passing cars, pelting innocent motorists with beer bottles and charging at police officers who began swiftly arriving in droves. As the group reached the crossroads with Grimshaw Lane, another convoy of Tactical Aid officers also arrived at the scene, forcing the demonstrators, many of whom were still armed, down the residential street.
The bus service in the area was also suspended amid the incident, as Stagecoach posting to X: "Due to a Police incident currently taking place in the Newton Heath area, the service is suspended until further notice. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."
