Voters want to see more policies before the final weeks of an election campaign, but only one-in-five are waiting until election day to make up their mind

The three highest priorities of all respondents to the survey included seeing policies earlier in the campaign, having a minimum set of education standards to boost child literacy, and agreement that the government’s highest priority should be to protect the economy and to balance the budget.on the Sunday before the election represented a turning point for Coalition voters, with more than one-third making up their minds during the campaign – but before to the last week.
But the nature of the Coalition government’s tenure and legacy – holding power for nine years with three changes in leadership – made it difficult to determine whether the results would be repeated at the next federal election or in upcoming state elections.
