A protester has told 891 ABC Adelaide she has chained herself to a gate on War Memorial Drive and that four others have chained themselves to machinery inside the North Adelaide Golf Course.
Protesters of the controversial North Adelaide Golf Course redevelopment say they have chained themselves to machinery at the site on Friday morning. One of the protesters, named Hayley, told 891 ABC Adelaide that she chained herself to a gate on War Memorial Drive and that four others had chained themselves to machinery inside the golf course.
The course is undergoing a $45 million redevelopment, which has sparked significant protests whilePolice are also investigating a suspicious fire at the redevelopment site, hours after thousands protested at Parliament House on Wednesday night. This morning, Hayley said police were at the site and she was prepared to be arrested "for a good cause".
Another protester Naomi, who was not taking part in the act, said several people have chained themselves with padlocks which would need to be cut by police officers.
"Absolutely people within our group are willing to get the arrest, fine, because they believe that it's absolutely worthwhile," she said. "We are engaging in non-violence direct action … not being abusive, not doing anything that's violent. "
