A group of Jewish activists have stormed Defence Minister Richard Marles’ office on Wednesday, staging an anti-Zionist demonstration in condemnation of Israel’s attacks on Palestine.
The protesters occupied Mr Marles’ Victoria office in the city of Geelong just after 10am and secured themselves with locks around their necks, in what was described as a “ritual” by the organisers on social media.
“The group – made up of members of Jewish, Aboriginal, and other communities – demands that Marles and the Federal Labor Government withdraw diplomatic, economic and military support for Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestine,” Jews Against Fascism said. “As a descendant of Holocaust survivors, I refuse to let Israel’s far-right government weaponise our grief, pain and fear for the purpose of war crime, invasion and genocide,” Noemie Huttner-Koros, a Jewish artist and writer, said.
Mr Marles is currently on a visit to the United States to further AUKUS discussions with his American defence counterpart Lloyd J. Austin.
