Australian activists protest against Donald Trump's proposal for US control of Gaza, while residents in North Queensland brace for severe weather and flooding.

Australian activists took to the streets to protest against Donald Trump 's proposal for a US takeover of Gaza . Demonstrations in Sydney condemned the plan, which protesters argue amounts to ethnic cleansing for Palestinians who would be relocated. Australian leaders, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, have repeatedly expressed their support for a two-state solution, a solution that would be undermined by Trump's plan.

Protesters believe the Prime Minister's response has been inadequate and demanded stronger opposition to the proposal. \'Like what more does it take for Anthony Albanese to come out and actually look reality at what's happening in Gaza, and say he's against it?' one protester exclaimed. 'We're going to keep protesting. The government is trying to say it's all over now and we should go home now. But it's not over in Palestine.' \US President Donald Trump has refused to retract his proposal, which has sparked international outrage, including from key Arab allies and Palestinians who insist they will not abandon their homeland. White House officials have attempted to soften the impact of Trump's statements, claiming that the President intended to imply the repatriation would be temporary, given the extensive rebuilding required. However, Trump maintains his belief in the original proposal and considers it a sound idea, even though it remains unimplemented. 'No deliberations (have been had on the Gaza proposal). It has been very well received. The United States would view it as a real estate transaction where we will be an investor in that part of the world. No rush to do anything. We wouldn't need anybody there. It would be supplied and given to us by Israel. They will watch in terms of security. We're not talking about boots on the ground - or anything. But the fact that we're there, that we have an investment there would go along way to creating peace.' Meanwhile, residents of North Queensland are preparing for another wave of heavy rainfall and severe weather this weekend. Strengthening monsoonal trough persisting across northern Australia, combined with a tropical low off the coast, is expected to intensify rainfall. This follows a week of heavy rainfall that has already disrupted power supplies, forced hundreds of evacuations, and necessitated the Australian Defence Force's deployment of a temporary bridge near Ingham to ensure critical supplies reach affected areas. \Brendan Moon, the Coordinator-General for National Emergency Management, announced that authorities are deploying additional police, boats, and water rescue crews to regions of concern, including Mackay and the Whitsundays. 'We've seen significant impacting of homes, impacts to small business, impact to communities at large, evacuations, impacts to the power network and the road transport system that is the lifeblood of north Queensland, and that is our focus at this particular point in time.' \On a brighter note, the Netflix adaptation of Trent Dalton's bestselling novel 'Boy Swallows Universe' has dominated this year's AACTA awards. Robbie Williams biopic 'Better Man' garnered nine awards, including best film and best lead actor. Production company Working Dog, renowned for classics such as 'The Castle,' 'Frontline,' and 'Utopia,' received the Longford Lyell Award for advancing excellence in screen culture. \'We don't take this for granted. We know that storytelling is an absolute privilege, but stories don't mean anything at all unless you have someone to tell them. So our biggest thanks goes to the audience. Because they have been with us for so many years and supported us for all this time. And we really do appreciate you, so thank you very much.' \Finally, All Stars coach Xavier Clarke expressed confidence that the Australian Football League (AFL) will witness an increase in the number of Indigenous players, reversing a concerning trend partly attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of Indigenous players in the AFL has reached its lowest point since 2006, declining from 86 in 2020 to 63 in the 2025 season
