Tim Iroegbunam did not listen to the noise. He was aware of it. But as some critics and pundits attempted to pitch his sale to Everton as part of an effort by Aston Villa to navigate spending regulations , the attention of the 21-year-old was focused on more important conversations. The most notable of those were the Zoom calls he shared with his prospective director of football Kevin Thelwell as news of his potential move broke while he was on the Greek island Mykonos.
With the progress made towards the end of last season and the summer so far there was, he said, an appeal to being part of the squad that helps to turnaround Everton’s fortunes and push a massive club back to where it belongs. He has already settled in at Everton. Pre-season is less than two weeks old but there is no shortage of training pictures showing him enjoying himself with his new teammates.
