A former powderkeg suspended for 17 games in just four seasons, Jack Hetherington has revealed his secrets to keeping his emotions in check.
Powerhouse Knights forward Jack Hetherington was always hopeful he could play every game this year – but what has come as a surprise is that he has only been sent to the sin-bin twice.
But with the help of a psychologist, Hetherington learned how to deal with his pre-match nerves and regulate his emotions once the red mist started to creep in. “This year I’ve been able to regulate my emotions. I do a heap of meditation, a bit of journaling and reading, and I’m just trying to look at the bigger picture, which is staying on the field and not letting my team down.”Hetherington has spent the bulk of the year in the front row. Former Canterbury coach Trent Barrett tried him on an edge in the hope he would be spared “proving his toughness” in the middle, but Hetherington said he felt most comfortable with the rough and tumble.
