Around 40 people had to take refuge in a pub last night after heavy snowfall forced them to abandon their cars ❄️🍻

She said: ‘Conditions were still really treacherous. Then we figured out the Bear Inn was taking in waifs, strays, and stranded people.’‘Once we were full, we quite quickly realised that these people have got to go somewhere, they can’t stay in their cars all night,’ she said.

Tom Buckley from Bexhill also found refuge in the pub, adding: ‘I got stuck on a hill just outside Burwash, got towed up the hill and dug out by the local vicar, who was a hero.‘Every room was full, people sleeping in the bar. Those people couldn’t have been nicer.’But it has been a nightmare out on the roads

Sussex Police said they dealt with a number of stranded drivers on the A21 in Hastings and surrounding roads this morning.Meanwhile, the UK Health Security Agency has issued a cold weather alert until Friday, and is encouraging people to stay warm and look out for those most at risk.sliding around on the M25.
