Many pubs and venues have hosted viewing events, but now The Lion pub in Basford is taking the World Cup fever one step further

A Nottingham pub has said it will change its name if England win the Women's World Cup final. England's Lionesses will face Spain in their first World Cup final this Sunday after an impressive run in the tournament.

The competition, which started on July 20 and is being jointly held by Australia and New Zealand, has been well supported back in the UK. . The pub on Mosley Street has said it will change its name to the Lioness, taken from the team's nickname, if they triumph in the nation's first World Cup final since 1966. In a Facebook post, a representative said: "If England football team win the FIFA World Cup on Sunday we are going to rename The Lion in honour of them! Come on The Lionesses!!!"We will be open from 10.

"That's a wonderful idea," one patron said. Another commented: "Not a fan of pub name changes but this is a brilliant idea don't you think." Another jokingly mentioned a potential stumbling point with the renaming, adding: "Awesome, but the lion on the [pub's] logo would have to lose the mane."
