Principal of North Coast Cabbage Tree Island Public School, Dyonne Anderson, said she was forced to wake up at 4am to complete administration because she was filling in for teachers during the day.“But I can’t fill my teaching allocation, let alone provide additional teaching positions, because there are no teachers to be found.

“We can’t accept the crippling teacher shortages and how they’re costing our kids their opportunities to learn, costing them their future,” he said.Ashfield Public School teacher Gabriella McGrath said teachers were having their passion slowly drained from them. “The government doesn’t seem to care that as young teachers we’re missing out on a life with family and friends. In the evenings, when we should be relaxing with loved ones, we’re sitting at our laptops writing lesson plans and preparing to make sure our students have the best education possible.”
