Queensland Health is investigating a highly infectious disease outbreak in Gladstone caused by microscopic parasites. The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service has confirmed an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis
"When we do see an outbreak, we need to put into action a series of measures to make sure that we minimise the spread and contain it as quickly as possible," Professor Griffin said."We do see it pop up from time to time, particularly around things like swimming pools, and clusters relating to that, as well as childcare centres."
"Immune suppressive people are the ones who probably need to be the most cautious and really pay attention to the types of locations it is in and avoid those."Professor Griffin said confirming cases and cross-referencing where those people had been was crucial to finding the source of the infection."It's about going directly to that source and addressing it," he said.
Mayor Matt Burnett said the pool's operators, BlueFit, had a "proactive super-chlorination program and secondary disinfectant systems".Basic hygiene key to prevention

The cash plash comes as Health Minister Shannon Fentiman faces increasing criticism over ambulance ramping and long wait times at the emergency department.
