Puerto Rican model Sofía Jirau is the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome, according to USA Today.
Jirau joins 17 other women in the company’s new underwear line and campaign, Love Cloud Collection. The 24-year-old thanked Victoria’s Secret for seeing her as a model “without limits.”in an Instagram post“I can finally tell you my big secret,” she wrote. “I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!”
The Love Cloud Collection marks the first campaign under the new creative director, Raúl Martinez, who joined in January. The project also comes months after the company replaced its signature “Angels” with new models, USA Today reported, including actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, soccer star Megan Rapinoe, and LGBTQ model Valentina Sampaio, the first transgender model to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Jirau debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2020 and has been featured in People, Univision, and Vogue Mexico. She also launched an online store that features clothing and accessories. Named “Alavett,” the shop is based on her favorite colloquial phrase in Puerto Rico that means, “I love it.
The new collection, which is focused on all-day comfort, debuted in stores and online on Thursday.
