‘I was told I’d be in a wheelchair by the time I was 30. Instead, I joined the rock band Pulp’ said Candida The shocking news came following a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, a long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints.Four years later, she found herself playing keyboard with the rock band Pulp, which had hits such as Common People and Disco 200.
Today, October 12, highlights the work of charities such as Arthritis Action to help people across the country come to terms with new diagnoses, and feel confident to adapt their lives with the right support in place. Candida added: ‘I want to show people, especially young people with rheumatoid arthritis, that being diagnosed with arthritis doesn’t have to mean the end of opportunities and adventures in life.
