On the first day of the visit the Chinese leader told his ally he was “confident the Russian people will continue to give you their firm support" at the polls.I doubt the Kremlin would feel concerned about this kind of “foreign interference”. By saying we need to recognise the concerns of all sides involved in the war in Ukraine, China moved from being a bipartisan bystander to a quiet supporter of its Russian ally.Russia also joined Beijing in condemning AUKUS, the diplomatic vehicle by which Australia plans to acquire nuclear-powered attack submarines from the US.Perhaps the most intriguing part of the trip were agreements on security and defence cooperation.
Finally, Putin could also transfer captured Western military technology to China in exchange for microchips and other military intelligence.
