Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the West of attempting to destroy Russia and claims it was preparing to murder a prominent Russian TV journalist.
He has demanded prosecutors take a tough line with the West as he detailed so-called plots by foreign spies to discredit his country and armed forces.
Putin accused the West of inciting Ukraine to plan attacks on Russian journalists – which Kyiv denies. He said the Federal Security Service had prevented a murder attempt by what he calls a terrorist group on a Russian TV journalist. He didn’t provide evidence to support the statement and news outlets have been unable to verify the accusations.
