Kremlin says president visited occupied territories where he discussed conflict with military officials

Vladimir Putin has made a rare visit to a military headquarters in Russian-occupied Ukraine in an area where his troops are bracing themselves for an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive in the coming weeks.

“I do not want to distract you from your direct duties related to command and control,” Putin said during the visit, according to the Kremlin. “It is important for me to hear your opinion on how the situation is developing, to listen to you, to exchange information. I would ask you to start your report with the situation [near Kherson and then near Zaporizhzhia],” he said.

The Kremlin said Putin attended a military command meeting in the Kherson region. He heard reports from commanders of the airborne forces and the “Dnieper” army group and other senior officers on the situation in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, both of which Moscow has proclaimed part of Russia.in November and have been reinforcing their positions on the opposite bank of the Dnipro River.
