Mr Dutton took the calls one step further in an interview with Sky News’ Peter Stefanovic on Wednesday where he demanded a total ban on Gazan refugees being granted entry to Australia. “I think it is something the Prime Minister needs to answer because we’re living in a heightened security threat environment and the Prime Minister needs to be upfront with the Australian public.”
The Liberal leader’s comment stirred controversy across the political aisle with Mr Albanese taking a shot at Mr Dutton before defending the process for taking in Palestinian refugees.“We’ll listen to the security agencies when it comes to national security and the Director-General Mike Burgess will play a role in that.Pressed on why the government was not referring the Palestinian refugees to ASIO, a livid Mr Albanese shut down the claim.
