ZZ Top, which visits Regina on Sunday, is still going strong after 50\u002Dplus years despite the recent passing of long\u002Dtime bassist Dusty Hill.

After 50-plus years as the band’s frontman, Gibbons’ signature blues-rock sound continues to draw crowds on the latest Canadian tour: A Celebration with ZZ Top.

Postmedia’s Greg Harder conducted a Q&A with Gibbons via email earlier this week, discussing what’s new in the world of ZZ Top and what continues to drive this iconic band. There is no real secret to the band’s longevity. We figured while we’re having a good time there’s good reason to keep it rolling. One decade led to another and then we realized it’s been a while. I guess that’s the secret: Good times for their own sake should be encouraged. To be honest, there weren’t any surprises as there were no expectations. I believe after five years we were surprised we’d made it that far and then it just kind of became second nature to us.
