Alan Joyce says there’s been a 50 per cent jump in sick leave at Qantas as he apologised to frequent flyers for flight cancellations, delays and lost baggage.
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has apologised to millions of frequent flyers for myriad flight cancellations, delays and lost baggage over the past few months that have severelyHe said in a video, which accompanied the apology email, that Qantas had experienced a 50 per cent jump in sick leave. But that was still no excuse and that the airline was making some improvements.
Mr Joyce thanked airline users for their patience and said the high levels of sick leave had been because of influenza and COVID-19 cases and the isolation requirements.Louie Douvis Customers have been furious at regular flight cancellations, lost baggage flight delays at short notice and enormous waiting times on the phone when trying to change flights or ask questions.in the first year of the pandemic when international flights were grounded.
“Over the past few months, too many of you have had flights delayed, flights cancelled and bags misplaced,” he said.Together with the apology, Qantas is offering the $50 off a return flight for frequent flyers based in Australia and New Zealand.He said Qantas would offer status extensions for people in categories of Frequent Flyers Silver and above, extra points and lounge passes.
