The airline’s direct service will be diverted amid fears Iran is planning an imminent attack on Israel.
A Qantas spokesman confirmed flight QF9 from Perth to London would now fly via Singapore for refuelling due to the adjusted flight path. The return flight QF10, however, can carry enough fuel to avoid flying over Iran and is still flying direct from London to Perth.The diversion comes after the, believed to have been carried out by the Israelis.
Reuters said an Iranian news agency had published an Arabic report on the social media platform X saying all airspace over Tehran had been closed for military drills, but then removed the report and denied issuing such news. Qantas said passengers would remain on the same aircraft – a Boeing 787 Dreamliner – and fly on from Singapore to London.“We’re temporarily adjusting the flight paths for our flights between Perth and London due to the situation in parts of the Middle East,” a spokesman said.Qantas confirmed Perth-London is the only route affected by the situation in Iran, with Singapore-London following a different flight path.
European airlines Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines have cancelled services to the Iranian capital Tehran.
