A Qantas engineer who slapped a female flight attendant on the bottom and said he had "arranged" a mechanical issue so he could ask her out has lost his unfair dismissal claim.

A Qantas engineer lost his unfair dismissal claim after the Fair Work Commission found he had harassed a colleague.Fair Work Commission Deputy President Val Gostencnik found Mr Sikalias had made a series of "creepy" comments to Ms Currey, including the blonde remark, on board a May 2018 Qantas flight from Melbourne to Sydney before the cabin door closed.

These incidents, which left Ms Currey "shaken", justified Qantas' decision to fire Mr Sikalias in March last year, Deputy President Gostencnik found. Ms Currey complained to other flight attendants about Mr Sikalias' actions around the time they happened, but they did not witness the slap.
