The Senate inquiry’s report calls for a more competitive aviation sector and a stronger, more resilient national carrier we can all be proud of once again.
As a former wholly owned government entity, the company wants its independence to pay exorbitant executive salaries and hire and fire at whim, but seeks to be protected by its permissive parent against competition as the “national carrier”.But when the chips were down during COVID-19, Qantas chose to mothball its planes, outsource many of its Australian functions,As for the Albanese government, its bromance with Qantas and Alan Joyce goes back a long way.
It is bad enough when governments try to pick winners, but quite another to back old mates against Australians’ best interests. Especially when this same entity tugs on our loyal heart strings with young Australians singing our alternative national anthem.Australians have spectacularly fallen out of love with Qantas, but that’s because the airline dumped us first.
