More than 20,000 seats to a host of popular international destinations have been discounted by Qantas as part of what it has billed as its inaugural 'travel week' sale.

"We're seeing more and more Australians travelling to Japan, with Tokyo as one of our most in-demand destinations on the Qantas international network," Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said. Melbourne-Queenstown is being offered from $549, Sydney-Auckland from $559, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to Honolulu from $1,099 and Sydney to Vancouver from $1,499.
Meanwhile, Qantas' budget offshoot Jetstar on Tuesday announced it was offering one-way fares between Cairns and Newcastle from $109 after confirming it was resuming the route on a seasonal basis.Jetstar will fly between the two cities three times a week from July 2 to October 24 next year.
