None of the products on board will end up in landfill, instead everything will either be re-used, recycled or composted. 9News
By the end of 2021, when most flights across Qantas’s domestic, international and Jetstar fleets are waste-free, the company is aiming to have cut its waste-to-landfill by 75 per cent.
Qantas group executive sustainability Andrew Parker acknowledge some things can't be recycled because they have to be quarantined. Qantas acknowledges that going greener does have a financial cost attached, but said this will be absorbed by the company and not passed on to customers. The Arline hopes that it will even bring cost savings longer term.
"It’s part of the business case, because ultimately we save money out of this. We're prepared to make this investment – it’s the right thing to do, and in the long term it will reduce our costs."The only thing we'll be passing on to customers is a change in the product."
