Israel Palestine: Qatar Airways brings home Australians fleeing conflict
Foreign Minister Penny Wong has accepted an offer of assistance from Qatar Airways to conduct its first repatriation flight, carrying about 200 Australians fleeing war in the Middle East.A spokeswoman for Senator Wong confirmed the flight transporting Australians fleeing Israel had left Dubai early Tuesday morning Australian time. She said the federal government was still working with partners to support efforts to reopen the border with Egypt, to help Australians stranded in Gaza.
The Qatar Airways flight is carrying Australians who left Tel Aviv, and its strategic partner Virgin Australia will fly passengers home to their nearest domestic airport free of charge, according to sources who were not authorised to speak publicly.
