Most of New South Wales and Queensland are set to swelter on Monday, as a late blast of summer heat hits the east coast.

Temperatures above 30 degrees are forecast for Sydney, with the city tipped to reach 32 and parts of the north west to peak as high as 36.

Similar conditions are forecast for Queensland, with Brisbane also headed for a 30 degree day. Forecasters say temperatures are sitting three to five degrees above the average for this time of year.
