Queensland health officials have sensationally backflipped on their initial call for hundreds of passengers to miss Christmas and go into two weeks quarantine after a positive COVID-19 case flew into the Sunshine State.

All passengers on Virgin Flight VA1105 from Newcastle to Brisbane and second flight Brisbane to Townsville on Monday December 13 were deemed as close contacts by health officials after a case was identified on board.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath said officials acted cautiously before a meeting with health officers led to a backflip. Picture: NewsWire / Sarah Marshall Ms D'Ath is concerned about the rising cases in New South Wales with 1,360 cases detected in the last 24 hours. "I'm going to cancel my trip to QLD as I don't want to take the risk of having to spend two weeks in quarantine over Christmas," one person said.
