A north Queensland mother charged with manslaughter over the drownings of her young sons has been refused bail.
The bodies of Barak Austral, 5, and Jhulio Sariago, 3, were found in Townsville's Ross River after wandering away from their home on February 25. Their mother Leanne Eatts, 47, has been charged with manslaughter and serious drug offences, and was remanded to appear on May 17 during an appearance at Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
Magistrate Peter Smid refused bail and said the safety of Eatts and the community could be at risk if she was released, the ABC reported. Indigenous elder Gracelyn Smallwood, who helped rally the community and raise funds for the family, has called for calm."Let's not let this take away from the deaths of these two little angels and the amazing way the black and white community came together."
