Queensland Police have handed out 32 fines on the first day of “freedom” from strict lockdown laws.

The eased restrictions, which came into place on Saturday, allows residents to travel up to 50km from their homes to shop, go to a park, or visit loved ones.

Strict two-person gathering limits and social distancing requirements however are still in place. Queensland has recorded only one new confirmed case of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the state total to 1035.
