Queen Elizabeth has been laid to rest next to her husband, Prince Philip, following an intimate family-only ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Picture: Getty Images The casket travelled the more than 40-minute journey to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle where it was carried up the steps harking back to images of the path her late husband Prince Philip took last year.
Her Majesty’s procession into the chapel was led by King Charles III, Princes Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The Queen’s children were followed by Prince William, Prince Harry, her nephew David Armstrong-Jones and cousin Prince Richard. The Committal service at St George’s Chapel was attended by 800 people including the Royal Family, commonwealth prime ministers, governors-general and members of Her Majesty’s household. Picture: Getty Images At the completion of the day’s second formal ceremony, the Crown Jewels were removed from the on top of the casket and King Charles placed the company colour on the coffin. The Lord Chamberlain, Lord Andrew Parker, broke the wand of office and rested it upon the casket – signalling the end of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. As the Dean of Windsor read Psalm 103, the Queen’s coffin was lowered into the family vault at the chapel before her official burial. The small annex attached to the grand St George’s Chapel where the Queen was laid to rest with Prince Philip was commissioned in 1962 by Her Majesty and completed in 1969. Picture: Getty ImagesThe late-King was joined by his wife Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in 2002 while the pair’s youngest daughter, Margaret, chose to be one of the few royals to be cremated so as to join her parents and eventually her sister. Prince Philip’s coffin was buried in the royal vault at St George’s Chapel in 2021 but was moved with Her Majesty to King George VI’s chapel on Monday night.
