'One of the legends of Lark Lane little Mo, you could never be sad in her company.'
Mo Hughes died on April 18 just weeks after celebrating her 92nd birthday. She earned herself the nickname of the "Queen of Lark Lane " after the Aigburth road which she visited everyday.
Hundreds of people have shared their memories of Mo since the ECHO shared the news of her death, including on the People of Lark Lane Facebook page. While "the word 'legend' is often over used", one person said in Mo's case it is "justified by all the wonderful comments in her memory." "Mo was one of the 'old' lane's characters. Rest in Peace Mo and I hope you find a bar wherever you end up with a stool next to it. xx."
Mo was born in a house on Bickerton Street, just off Lark Lane in Aigburth, in 1932 where she lived with her family including two brothers and two sisters. She was evacuated during the war but after returning home, she got a job with Plessey Telecommunications and worked there until she retired. Mo also worked part-time at the Masonic pub, now known as the Lodge.
