The 96-year-old's private jet was forced to circle above London for 15 minutes, as the city was lashed by rain, hail and lightning.
The 13-seater jet attempted to land at the Royal Air Force station in Northolt, north-west London, when it encountered an electrical storm, which brought rain and hail.
Her Majesty was then whisked away to Windsor Castle in a four-wheel drive alongside her corgis to prepare for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Buckingham Palace confirmed the landing was aborted due to lightning but stressed there were no other safety concerns.
