A couple died after becoming trapped in their car in the flood water
United Utilities has confirmed a flash flood on Queens Drive which claimed the lives of a couple was not due to a burst pipe.
They were found trapped inside their car by emergency services and taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. Their next of kin have been informed. The victims have been named locally as married couple Philip and Elaine Marco. A council spokesperson said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with those involved and their families. Council officers from highways and City Watch supported the emergency services in responding. The road is expected to remain closed for some time while an investigation takes place, and motorists are asked to continue to avoid the area.”
