Queensland is grappling with a dangerous combination of extreme heatwave conditions and severe storms, leading to widespread power outages and health concerns.

Queensland is facing a challenging weather situation with extreme heatwave conditions gripping large parts of the state's east coast and interior. The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that these scorching temperatures, reaching mid to high 30C along the coast, ranges, and inland areas, will persist until the weekend. Relief for the northern parts of the state is not expected until early next week.

Adding to the difficulties, severe storms have lashed parts of southeast Queensland, bringing damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and large hailstones. These storms have left over 25,000 properties without power, with Energex reporting that 23,940 customers in the southeast are currently affected. The combination of intense heat and stormy weather has prompted warnings from Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson Kent Jackson. He urges residents to prioritize their safety, avoid strenuous activities, stay hydrated, seek shade, and be aware of the signs of heat-related illness, such as nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, and dizziness. Jackson emphasizes that anyone experiencing these symptoms should immediately contact emergency services
