Casual workers who do not have access to sick leave will get a $1,500 lump sum payment from the Queensland Government if they test positive for coronavirus.
There were no new COVID-19 cases reported again overnight and only a handful of active cases remained across the state.
The payment would also cover workers not eligible for the Federal Government's JobKeeper program, which was restricted to long-term casual employees, but it would not be retrospective. United Workers Union boss Gary Bullock said a lot of staff would be excited to return to work as shops and restaurants reopened, but they had been apprehensive about their health.
"We all know everyone is financially distressed out there, no more than casual workers that live week to week," Mr Bullock said. "If they're faced with either coming to work knowing that they might be sick, but having to pay that rent, or put food on the table, the Government has made sure that doesn't have to happen."
