Queensland’s Chief Health Officer has warned of a “significant rise” in COVID infections over the coming days as the state recorded 3,587 new cases.

There are 165 COVID-19 cases in Queensland hospitals with 112 requiring treatment for the virus and five in intensive care. The spike in infections – recorded in the 24-hours up to 7pm last night - was reported from 33,990 tests.

“It probably relates to testing over the holiday period and so it will not be a surprise at all that in the next couple of days we see a significant increase in cases,” he said. It comes after the Palaszczuk Government on Saturday confirmed it would extend the mask mandate to effectively cover all indoor settings.
